The cushion is the romantic of the diamond shapes: a square or elongated outline with softly pillowed corners, descended from the old mine cuts that lit candlelit rooms for two centuries before electricity. Modern cushions pair that vintage silhouette with brilliant faceting, so the shape reads antique while the sparkle is anything but.

Cushions come in two personalities and we will show you both. Chunky crushed cushions carry larger, defined facets with bold flashes of fire, while crushed ice cushions scatter light into a fine glitter that fills the whole stone. Elongated cushions, usually between 1.15 and 1.30 in length to width ratio, have become the most requested version at our bench, softening the finger lengthening effect of an oval into something gentler. Those rounded corners also make the cushion one of the most durable shapes you can wear daily; there is simply no point to chip.

Every cushion we set is a certified lab-grown diamond, E or F colour, VS1 clarity or better, graded by IGI or GIA, and hand-crafted into its setting at 150 Edward Street, Brisbane.
