We'd budgeted five thousand and braced ourselves for compromise. We left with a carat more than we thought we could afford.Emily & James · The Alicia Oval · Brisbane

Book Your ConsultationComfortably, and you are in good company. The average Australian couple spends around $5,850 on an engagement ring, which means a $5,000 budget sits right where most proposals actually happen, not at the bottom of the market. The old "three months' salary" rule is long dead. What matters is not the number but where it goes: at Orlaithea, $5,000 buys a certified one carat lab-grown diamond of E or F colour, VS1 clarity and ideal cut, hand-set in 18ct gold at our Edward Street workshop. At a traditional retailer, the same money typically buys a mined stone of half the size and two colour grades lower, in a setting made offshore. That is the entire argument for lab-grown, sitting on one hand.
Cut first, always: it is what makes a diamond alive in the light. Then colour, where our matched E and F stones sit well above the G and H grades most retailers quote at this price. Certification is non-negotiable: every Orlaithea centre stone arrives independently graded by IGI or GIA. Carat is the lever you pull last, and with lab-grown pricing it is a far lighter pull than it used to be, which is how a budget that once meant half a carat now means one full carat, with room left over for platinum.
Every price on this page is the finished ring with its one carat certified diamond, made to order. The setting, the hands that make it, and the three-week promise are identical whether you choose the entry stone or a three carat centre. The only thing that changes under $5,000 is the size of the diamond, never the standard of the ring.
This page is the beginning of the range, not the whole of it. Every design here can carry a larger centre stone, and most of our commissions land between $4,400 and $7,700 complete. When you are ready to see everything, browse the complete lab-grown diamond engagement ring collection, where each silhouette is shown with its full run of carat weights. If the moment is close, our ready-to-ship engagement rings can be with you within days, and if nothing here is quite right, a fully custom design starts from $4,950. Whichever door you take, book a free consultation and we will make the budget work as hard as it can.
A complete engagement ring: a certified one carat lab-grown diamond of E or F colour, VS1 clarity and ideal cut, hand-set in 18ct gold at our Brisbane workshop and delivered fully insured in around three weeks. Fourteen of our signature designs begin under $5,000.
Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, physically and optically identical to mined diamonds: the same crystal structure, hardness and brilliance. Every stone we set is independently certified by IGI or GIA, exactly as a mined diamond would be.
Like for like, a lab-grown centre stone costs a fraction of its mined equivalent. At $5,000, that difference is the difference between a certified one carat E colour stone and a considerably smaller, lower-grade mined one. The budget goes into the diamond on her hand, not the supply chain behind it.
Usually, yes. Metal choice, band width and setting details can all be adjusted, and a fully bespoke commission starts from $4,950. We will tell you plainly what each change does to the price before anything is made.
Two to three weeks from design sign-off to your hands. Hand-crafting takes around ten business days, and you'll receive a video preview of the finished ring before it ships, fully insured, anywhere in the world.
