The emerald cut does not sparkle the way a brilliant does, and that is the point. Its long, open step facets act like a hall of mirrors, producing broad flashes of white light instead of glitter. The effect is architectural, quiet, and unmistakably deliberate: the shape of Art Deco jewellery, and of people who know exactly what they like.
Because those wide facets are essentially windows into the stone, an emerald cut hides nothing. Clarity that would be invisible in a round becomes obvious here, which is why our VS1 minimum matters more on this page than anywhere else on the site. Every emerald cut we set is D or E colour, VS1 clarity or better, certified by IGI or GIA, and you will see your exact stone on video before we set it. Most of our couples choose a length to width ratio around 1.40 to 1.50, long enough to elongate the finger without losing the shape's signature symmetry.
Each ring here is hand-crafted to order in our Brisbane atelier at 150 Edward Street, and every price shown is the finished ring, diamond included. Why do emerald cut diamonds sparkle differently?
An emerald cut uses long step facets instead of the small triangular facets of a brilliant, so it produces broad, dramatic flashes of white light rather than continuous glitter. The effect is often described as a hall of mirrors.
What clarity grade do I need for an emerald cut diamond?
Higher than any other shape. The wide open facets of a step cut act like windows into the stone, so inclusions that would vanish in a round can be visible here. Every emerald cut we set is VS1 clarity or better, and you see your exact stone on video before it is set. Most of our stones are VVS clarity.
What length to width ratio should an emerald cut be?
The classic emerald cut sits around 1.40 to 1.50, long enough to elongate the finger while keeping the symmetry the shape is known for. Squarer stones below 1.30 read closer to an Asscher, and we will show you both before you decide.
