No shape makes a carat work harder than the marquise. Its pointed, boat-shaped outline spreads more face-up surface per carat than any other cut, so a one carat marquise looks dramatically larger than a one carat round, and its long axis draws the eye down the finger in a way nothing else can. It is a shape with history, commissioned in eighteenth century France, and a shape with a point of view. Nobody chooses a marquise by accident.
The craft is in the details. A well cut marquise needs clean symmetry between its two points and enough depth through the centre to avoid the bow tie shadow that troubles cheaper stones; every marquise we set is an ideal cut selected for both, D or E colour, VS1 clarity or better, certified by IGI or GIA. The two points are the most delicate part of any pointed shape, so our settings protect each one in a claw as standard. You will see your exact stone on video before it goes near the bench.

Do marquise diamonds look bigger than other shapes?
Yes. The marquise spreads more face-up surface per carat than any other cut, so a one carat marquise looks dramatically larger than a one carat round, and its long outline stretches further down the finger.
Are the points of a marquise diamond fragile?
The two points are the most delicate part of the stone, which is why every marquise we set has each point protected inside a claw as standard. Set properly, a marquise is perfectly suited to everyday wear.
Does a marquise diamond have a bow tie?
Like all elongated brilliant cuts, a poorly cut marquise can show a dark bow tie shadow across its centre. We hand-select ideal cuts with enough depth through the middle to keep it faint, and you receive a video of your exact stone before it is set.
