Orlaithea is a Brisbane atelier crafting custom lab-grown diamond engagement rings, designed in conversation with you and hand-crafted from raw metal at our workshop on Edward Street. Where most jewellers sell rings from a cabinet, every Orlaithea commission begins with a sit-down with our head designer and ends, two to three weeks later, with a ring that exists nowhere else in the world.
Every diamond we set is E or F colour, VS1 clarity or better, ideal cut, and certified by IGI or GIA. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, physically and optically identical to mined stones: the same carbon, the same fire, grown above ground and priced so that a two carat centre stone no longer requires a compromise. It is how a hand-crafted ring from a working atelier starts at $3,980.
Choosing your diamond shape
Most couples start with the shape. Oval engagement rings remain our most commissioned: elongating on the hand, brilliant from every angle, and flattering on almost every finger. Round engagement rings are the classic for a reason, cut for maximum fire, while an elongated cushion softens that brilliance into something pillowy and vintage. Emerald cuts trade sparkle for architecture, long clean step facets that reward a high clarity stone, and radiant cuts give you those same crisp corners with crushed-ice brilliance. For something unmistakably yours, a marquise or pear carries a point of view, and both wear beautifully in our solitaire and halo settings. Our signature engagement rings begin at $3,980 with a one carat certified lab-grown diamond, and most commissions land between $4,000 and $7,000 complete. A two carat centre stone in one of our signature settings typically sits between $5,400 and $6,500, a figure that would be five times higher with a mined diamond of the same grade. Because every ring is made to order in our own workshop, nothing is padded for retail: you choose exactly where the budget goes, whether that is carat weight, a platinum band, or hidden details only the two of you know about. Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, physically and optically identical to mined diamonds: the same crystal structure, hardness and brilliance. Every stone we set is independently certified by IGI or GIA, exactly as a mined diamond would be.
How much does a 2 carat lab-grown diamond ring cost?
At Orlaithea, a two carat E colour, VS1 clarity centre stone in one of our signature settings typically costs between $5,400 and $6,500 complete, depending on the design and metal. The same ring with a mined diamond of equal grade would cost several times more.
What is the difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds?
Only the origin. Lab-grown diamonds are grown from carbon above ground rather than mined from it, so they are identical in every physical and optical property and graded on the same GIA scale. The practical difference is price and traceability: your budget goes further, and you know exactly where your stone came from.
How long does a custom engagement ring take?
Two to three weeks from design sign-off to your hands. Hand-crafting takes around ten business days, and you'll receive a video preview of the finished ring before it ships, fully insured, anywhere in the world.
